Learning a foreign languge is mainly based on the four skills: of writing, reading, listening, and speaking. One of the important aspects that a learner may be involved in is the specialized terms. The terms of law are not an exception. University students usually learn the terms of law through listening to their instructors, and reading the texts and trying to contextualize the terms to know what is specifically meant by a certain term, in addition to using rules that are well-known by those who use the terms including, the students, Judges, lawyers, bank officials and others. They practivse using these terms when writing letters, contracts and different types of documents.
Therefore, this books is divided into Six parts. Part one deals with the most popular terms used in the general theory of law. This part can enhance the law students abilities in legal terminology. Part two is concerned mainly with the most used terms in criminal law, which will mainly help lawyers, policemen, Judges, and law students involved in studying this branch of law. Part three touches upon the used terms in the law of contracts; a branch of law which is of the concern of all people. Part four deals with the main terms used in constitutional law. Part Five concentrate on the terms used in administrative law. Part six would b a kind of aconclusion, which will cover legal definitions, abbervations, and glossary legal terms.
For the general reader, this book provides a good background to law in English language, in addition to the aims at providing students, lawyers, merchants, bank employees, students of forensic medicine, insurance, and diplomats and other disciplines with the necessary information related to the legal terms and their uses. Advice has been sought from Jordanian Universities professors who teach this Course. Their comments and remarks were given due consideration.
Finally, it is worth mentioning that the refernces consulted are of wellknown legal books and dictionaries as they appear in the bibliography. However, this is Just a step and a human effort which needs, the efforts of others to continue in the same direction to fill any gap left.
