إذا كانت الحرب شكّلت ذاكرة العراقيين وعلى مدى عقود من الزمان، فإنه من الطبيعي أن تكون مادة في الشعر، فالشعر ومن يكتبه، هو دائماً، صنيعة الذاكرة، و "حكمت شبر" في "عراقي حبيبي" يعيد صنع الذكريات، ويثبها بين دفتي كتاب يشي بحس تراجيدي رافض لكل مظاهر الصراع الذي يقبع في ظله إبن الإنسان، داخل البلاد وخارجها، فيلتقط لنا صوراً تفصح عن الإغتراب والإحباط ومرارة الواقع، حيث يتمظهر انحيازه إلى الوعي الثوري في تمثله لموضوعة الحريات وحق الشعوب في تقرير مصيرها.
تحت عنوان (أمة العرب) يقول الشاعر: (أمة العرب لا تموتي) قالها بلوعة دون حدود / شاعرٌ يرثي أمة / لحست مخها تخاريف الجدود / أمةٌ خدرتها صفقات الوعود/ كان هم قادتها أن تعلّي أميراً / هنا وزعيماً هناك / له سحنة القرود / كم سمعنا من شيوخها كلاماً / عن نيل حقنا من قديم العهود / أنه نبالةٌ وفخرٌ فارغٌ / لن نرِ منه سوى جُنةٍ ورعود / لم تمت أمتنا بل مسها / وهن الركود". وبهذا تتصل رؤية الشاعر بمنطق الوجدان الجمعي حين يرسل نجواه إلى أبناء أمته وسط انكسارات الحاضر الذي يتقاسمه مع الآخرين في وطنه الجريح وبهذه المواصفات يكون الشعر قد أدى رسالته.
يضم الكتاب قصائد متنوعة في الشعر العربي الحديث والشعر الموزون والمقفى / التفعيلة، والشعر العامودي، جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: "عراق حبيبي" ، "كأسي" ، "ضياع" ، "الابريق" ، "الزنبق الحلو" ، "أسألي عني" ، "سنابل الحب" ... وقصائد أخرى.
