في ذلك الزمان: حين كان كل شيء يتكلم.. قال الملك لخادمه النسر ذي الجناحين الكبيرين: "أيها النسر، يا ذا الجناحين، إنني ضجر: سأله النسر: وماذا تريدني أن أفعل يا مولاي؟ أجاب الملك: طر وابحث لنا عن أجمل بقعة في الوجود، ثم عُدْ واحملني إليها. وهكذا فعل النسر فمضى يبحث عن أجمل بقعة في الوجود.. مرّ على المدن الملونة، ومدن العمل ومدن اللعب شاهد عوالم مختلفة، وأمصار لا يعرفُ بعضُها بعضاً، مرّ على السهول والسهوب، على الهضاب والصحاري... برغم كل شيء كانت مواطن الجمال كثيرة...
ثم التمعت عيناه بوهج وردي، وصاح بصوت، كان مزيجاً من الرعشة والفرح... وجدته. كان قد شاهد مكاناً رخواً، محصوراً بين الأرض اليابسة والنهر.. ويمتد ويتسع اتساعاً كبيراً. تغمره مياه ضحلةٌ ونباتات كثرة، وتتوسطه صخرة عالية جرداء. هبط النسر فوق هذه الصخرة المرتفعة وسط الأرض الرخوة، ثم صار يحتضنها بقوة. إن به رغبة عنيفة أن يحملها معه، أو يدخلها في أعماقه، ولكن لماذا كل هذا الحنين إلى هذه البقعة من الأرض التي تحتضن مستنقعاً آسن، وصخرة كالحة؟ وهل هذه المنطقة هي بالفعل أجمل مكان أم أن للنسر فيها ذكريات؟ تجعله يعتقد أنها أجمل بقعة في العالم؟
