وبناءً على ما تقدم تضمن الكتاب عشرة فصول، تبدأ بــ: ما قبل التاريخ الرسمي النظرية السوسيولوجية (ابن خلدون نموذجاً)، مروراً بالوضعية وروادها والوظيفية ونظريات الصراع الطبقي، ثم الماركسيون الجدد، والتفاعليون الرمزيون وأخيراً الإنعكاسيون (الإنعكاسية ونظرية التشكيل الإجتماعي)، وملحق بعنوان "ماهي النظرية الإجتماعية".
