ولأن موضوع المزاج من الأمور المسكوت عنها في النقد العربي عموماً، وحول الرواية الفلسطينية على وجه الخصوص، جاء اهتمام الناقد المعروف وليد أبو بكر للبحث في هذه الظاهرة في الرواية الفلسطينية في مراحل تطورها المختلفة، وفي أهم محطاتها التاريخية، وكيف تمظهرت في النصوص السردية وذلك في كتابه (المزاج في النص الأدبي ومخاطر التطبيع في السرد الفلسطيني) والغاية هي البحث عن حالة المزاج في الرواية الفلسطينية، وتتبع ذلك التغيّر في الأدب الروائي الفلسطيني، منذ وقع الغزو الأول على الأرض الفلسطينية وإلى الان. أما الهدف الأسمى للمؤلف: حماية الأدب الفلسطيني من الخلل والزلل، ومن الدخلاء أيضاً، هو الهدف الذي وضعته هذه الدراسة أمامها، وتمنت أن تنجح فيه ...".
ما يميز هذه الدراسة ويضعها في قائمة الدراسات النقدية الجادة أنها تقدم للناقد والكاتب التقنيات اللازمة عند إعداد أي عمل إبداعي، وخاصة كيفية خلق (المزاج) الذي يخلق الحالة العاطفية في كل مشهد من مشاهد العمل الروائي، وكذا كيفية خلق الشخصيات التي تتحرك داخل المشهد، وعلى رأسها الشخصية التي تعبر عن وجهة النظر، والتي يمكن لها أن تجذب عاطفة القارىء وتتسرب إلى مزاجه ووجدانه بسلاسة ... مع طرح نماذج من الرواية الفلسطينية ودراستها دراسة نقدية.
توزعت الدراسة على العناوين الآتية: مقدمة بعنوان "حين تبدأ القصص"، يتبع ذلك 1- حساسية وتحول، 2- عن مفهوم المزاج، 3- خطوات في الطريق، 4- متاهات صعبة، 5- التطبيع خيار ثقافي، 6- ملاحق الدراسة.
