إن ما يجمع بين هذه القراءات التي ضمها هذا الكتاب جوامعُ كثيرة، أهمّها أنّها قُدِّمت بوصفها بُحوثاً للدكتور "إحسان عبّاس"، منارة أهل العلم بالأدب والنّقد، على مدار السّنة الاولى التّمهيديّة للدكتوراه في الجامعة الأردنية (2000- 2001).
وهي محاولاتٌ في النّقد التّطبيقيّ على مجموعة من النّصوص الشّعريّة العبّاسيّة والأندلسيّة، كان القصدُ منها إلى أن تكون في النّقد التّطبيقيّ دون إغفالٍ ما يقتضيهِ ذلك من تنظير أحياناً، ولكنّ الباحث لَمّا وجدَ الهُجومَ على القصدِ أحلى، والإنتفاعَ بما في الأنظار غايتُهُ عُبورُ النّصوص، آثر الإقتصارَ من التّنظير على ما يبلِّغ المرام، من دون ليِّ أعناق الكلام ليوافقَ منهجاً بعينه، ما وجدَ إلى ذلك سبيلاً، أو يُعاضدَ فكرةً لاحت له من قبلُ، ولعلّه ليس صاحبَ منهجٍ واحدٍ في هذه القراءات، بل كان المنهجُ مستَقىً من النّصّ نفسه في كلِّ مرّة.
وقد عالج الباحثُ هذه النّصوص بعد قراءة كلّ نصّ منها عدّة مرّات قبل الخوض في تحليله، وكان يُحاول إجتنابَ العودة إلى ما قال غيرُه فيها، وقد يجد قارئ هذه المحاولات تركيزاً على الجوانب اللغويّة في النّصوص المدروسة، أي البنية اللغويّة للإبداع فيها، بما تحمل في ظلالِها من إبانة عن الهُموم والقضايا، وبما تُخفي أحياناً الأغراضَ والنّوايا، وبما تكشفُ أحياناً أخرى عن وُعورة المسلَك وإختلالِ التّوازُن في البناء.
