كُتِب الكَثيرُ عن الخنساء وشعرها، بعضهُ كانَ دراساتٍ جادَّة خرجَت بنتائجَ تفصيليَّة لموضوعها، وبعضُها كان حَشْواً وتلفيقاً وتكراراً وقصّاً ولصقاً، وبعضُها كان جَمُعاً وإيراداً لما في الكُتب من غير إدعاء التأليف، وبعضُها كان عاماً قبالةً ما تخصَّصَ منها لبحثٍ قضيَّةٍ من القضايا المضمونيَّة أو ظاهرة من الظواهر الفنيّة، ويزعُمُ الباحثانِ أنّ دراستَهُما هذه عن شعر الخنساء أوَّلُ دراسةٍ منهجيَّةٍ لشعرِ الخنساء كلِّها - في ما أطَّلَعا عليه من دراساتٍ عنها وعن شعرها - انبنَتْ على منهجٍ واضحٍ محدّد، واستقصت مُجمل القضايا والمضامين والظّواهر الفنّيَّة والمعلوماتِ السياقيَّة المُعينَة لتكونَ دراسةً من الدَّاخلِ، ومحورته على المسألة الجوهريَّةِ فيه (شعريَّة الفقد)، وفسَّرتهُ في ضوئها مضموناً وتشكيلاً.
