لا يكتفي هذا الكتاب بالعرض النقدي لبعض التوجهات الكبرى في تناول الذكورة والأنوثة، وإنما يعرض، أيضاً، نتائج عمل ميداني قد تفاجئ القارئ بدلالاتها الثقافية والسياسية:
من ذلك إن التعليم الجامعي، بمعارفه كلها، لا يمنع الطلاب من التعلق بأكثر الأحكام تقليدية، وبأكثر الصور تنميطاً، عن الرجال والمرأة. ومن ذلك – وهذا أكثر تجذراً وخطورة – ما تسميّه الباحثة "تطييف الذكورة والأنوثة"، إذ تبيّن لها أن هناك "انشطاراً" ثقافياً في لبنان، وكأن هناك "ثقافتيْن" مسلمة ومسيحية، تمدّ كل واحدة منهما "طلابها" بمعايير الذكورة والأنوثة وبأسماء الشخصيات "النموذجية" المجسدة لهما. لقد امتد "التطييف" إلى مجال كهذا، وإلى هذا الحد!..
