هذا الكتاب مجموعة من الدراسات والأبحاث التي يربط بعضها بالبعض الآخر إطار معرفي هو انتماؤها الى ذلك الفرع من فروع الدراسات الأدبية والنقدية الذي يعرف بالسيميولوجيا أو السيموطيقا أو ما تعرف النقد العربي على تسميته بالسيميائيات. أو السيمياء، أو علم العلامة... الخ. ولعل هذا التباين في تحديد المصطلح وترجمته يشي بأنه على الرغم من التطور والتشعب اللذين شهدتهما الأبحاث السيميائية في العالم. سواء أكانت نظرية أم تطبيقية، فإنه ينبغي الاعتراف بأن السيميائيات علم ما زال في طفولته. وإزاء ذلك، فإن اتجاهات عدة تتعارض، لا من حيث النظريات المتنافرة التي تقترحها فحسب، وإنما أيضاً من حيث تصورها لما يجب أن يشكل نظرية سيميائية. وحتى لا يتيه القارئ في بحر تتجاذبه أمواج معرفية متضاربة، ارتأينا أن نرسو معه على ميناء واضح المعالم، محدد التوجهات المعرفية ألا وهو السيميائيات السردية التي تسعى الى استكشاف المعنى وسيرورته. في سياق أوسع من سياق التواصل المنحصر في المرسل والرسالة والمرسل اليه، إذ الأمر يتعلق بلغة اللغة حيث يتحول عالم المعنى الذي تجعله السيمياء موضوع تحليلها الى لغة قابلة للتفكيك. لكن ذلك لن يحول دون أن نتطرق الى السيمياء في بعدها التواصلي بحثاً عاماً يمكن أن تضيفه التداولية لسد ثغرة طالما أرقت السيميائيين والمتمثلة في استكناه الاثر الذي يحدثه المعنى في المتلقى.
وجل همنا في هذا الكتاب ينكب على محاولة وصف النظرية السيميائية من حيث سعيها الى استخلاص ظاهرة هي عنصر أساس في حياتنا اليومية ألا وهي السرد، وذلك من خلال تحديد مجموع القوانين التي تتحكم جزئياً في السردية.
