يعد فن الكاريكاتير خطاباً إعلامياً شعبياً ، يسعى إلى تصوير أكثر المواقف السياسية والاجتماعية حرارة وقرباً من الوجدان الإنساني ويمتلك قدرة على اختزال مساحات شاسعة من الرؤى ولكن هذا الاختزال لا يلغي سمة الشفافية التي ينبغي أن تتوافر في الصورة الكاريكاتورية، ولم يعد الخطاب في عملية التواصل مقصوراً على اللغة اذ ان غاية الخطاب تتحقق بالكلمة والصورة واللون واية اشكال اخرى من الدوال والرموز، فالصورة الكاريكاتورية هي نص سيميائي اذ "يرى السيميولوجيون أنه لاشيء خارج النص، فالعنوان والنص والإخراج الطباعي والإشارات والصور أجزاء لاتتجزأ من الخطاب، فكلّها إشارات دالة يكمّل بعضها بعضاً، وبخاصة أن السيميولوجيا أشمل من المنطوق"، وقد تكون الاشكال غير اللغوية اقدر على ايصال الفكرة وإحداث التأثير والإثارة كما أن صورة الكاريكاتير قادرة على اضاءة فاق الفكرة بزمن قياسي مقارنة بزمن الادراك الذي يقتضيه إدراك اللغة وبخاصة ان صورة الكاريكاتير تتسم بالبساطة والتلقائية والمباشرة لانها خطاب مفتوح للمتلقي مهما كان مستواه الثقافي او المعرفي.
ولقد برز عدد من الظواهر الأسلوبية في الفضاء الكاريكاتيري في موضوع القدس، اختارها المؤلف لتكون موضوع كتابه بهدف الكشف عن هذه الظواهر الأسلوبية الفنية التي تعالج الأبعاد السياسية التي تشكل تحدياً للأمتين العربية والإسلامية. كما تحدث عن أسلوب رثاء محمود درويش في صورة الكاريكاتير، وعن فلسطين في صورة الكاريكاتير لدى أمية جحا. ثم تناول موضوع التناص في صورة الخطاب الإشهاري التجاري واختتم كتابه بالحديث عن الخطاب الثقافي في معارض الأشغال والحرف اليدوية.
