اعتقدت أن الأشياء صارت من طيات الماضي, في صفحات النسيان, بين بيوت القناطر وعلى أطراف بغداد, اعتقدت أن الأمس تجمد وعانق حجارة معاصر الزيتون القديمة.
أنساها لأيام, لأسابيع, لأشهر, وأحيانا حتى يحل الشتاء, أجلس حول المدفأة الحجرية في ليلة باردة, تتلفعني فروة الصوف الثقيلة, تلمع ألسنة النار في عيني ورائحة الخشب المحترق كأنها شموع حبيبتي المطفأة, حينها... أراها في الموقد ترقص أمامي وكأن ألسنة النار رجل يعانقها, تذبحني وأحبها, يقبلها وأبكي, يراقصها وأتلوع حزنا وحرقة.
ظننت أنها صارت ماضي... إنها معي... تلاحقني... تقتلني في اليوم خمس مرات بعد كل صلاة... ما زالت تعيش في داخلي وتحيا بألمي... ما زالت شيئا جميلا يؤرقني ويغرّب الراحة والنوم عني... بغداد... أحبها.
