قصة الأوديسة ملحمة متفرعة من قصة حروب طروادة، تلك الحروب الطويلة القديمة التي نشبت بين جيوش دول المدن اليونانية وبين جيوش طروادة وحلفائها من آسيا الصغرى في ذلك الوقت، وسببها هو ما ذكرناه في قصة الإلياذة، إذ نزل باريس بن الملك بريام ملك طروادة ضيفًا على الملك منلوس ملك أسبارطة فلم يلبث أن سرق زوجته وكنوزه وفر إلى طروادة، فنشبت الحرب التي دامت عشر سنوات حتى استطاعت الجيوش اليونانية اقتحام المدينة بفضل الحيلة التي أشار بها أوديسيوس بطل قصة الأوديسة، وهي حيلة الحصان الخشبي الضخم الذي اختبأت فيه نخبة من أشجع فرسان الجيش اليوناني.. مما هو مذكور في قصة حروب طروادة. تُوصف الأوديسة بـ"الملحمة الملهمة لأجيال الكتاب على مر العصور". وتأثيرها بلغ الذروة في عصرنا، وامتد إلى مجالات بعيدة عن الأدب، مثل: الصناعة والتجارة. وعلى المستوى الأدبي، استلهم الكتاب الأوديسة في إبداعات جديدة، مثل رواية جيمس جويس "يوليسيس"، رواية نيكوس كازانتزاكيس الملحمية" الأوديسة: تكملة معاصرة"، ديوان" فجر الأوديسا" للشاعر المصري محمد البرقي. كما تأثر الشعر العربي الحديث بهذه الملحمة. وأعاد عدد من الأدباء، كتابة رواية الأوديسة نثراً، برؤى مختلفة. وهناك اسماء كثيرة تطلق على هذه الملحمة عالمياً، مثل: أوديسوس وأوديسي ويوليسوس ويوليسيس وأوليسوس."
