هي صورة شاحبة لإنسان في لحظات سريعة من حياته يوم كان يكتب، ويتحدث، ويعلم، يزور الصحف، يتفقد الأصدقاء، عكازه بيده، وبيده الأخرى علبة عطوسه، في هذه الصفحات طيف حاول الكثيرون إحياءه للذين لم يعايشوا مارون عبود، فكان لهم الفضل في أنهم نقلوا إليهم بعض سمات الرجل وتصرفاته. أعادوا إلى أذهانهم، صورة مارون عبود في عالية، في بطريركيته عين كفاح على "رجمة" من الحجارة تحت ضوء القمر، في دار المكشوف، في أروقة جرائد زمانه، وفي شوارع بيروت القديمة، بيروت الأربعينيات والخمسينيات.
وقيمة هذه الذكريات، أنها تحيي الزمن الغابر، يوم كان مارون عبود يسير بين الناس يكلمهم، يمازحهم، ويعمل ويتنقل بينهم. وتنقل لنا عن الرجل ومضات من حياته ذات دلالات كثيرة. من خلالها نتعرف إلى الإنسان، يرقص ويذبح العجل المسمن، على رجمة أمام داره لأعز أصدقائه. وفي ساعة خوف ليس من الموت في آخر حياته بل من الخوف على أدباء لبنان وأدباء العرب، وفي هذه الصورة نتأمل مارون الناقد الذي كان يرعى الناشئة بعطفه وحنانه وتوجيهاته الأدبية القديمة، يرشدهم أنّى يغطّون أقلامهم ومن أين يبدعون، ينهاهم عن التقليد ويدلهم على طريق الإبداع والذاتية.
