ابن زريق البغداديّ!... أهو شخصيّة حقيقيّة أم أنّه محض خيال أدبيّ نسجه الرواة؟... وإذا كان خيالاً فمن كتب قصيدته الشهيرة: "لا تعذليه"؟... ومن يكون ذلك الشاعر الجواد الذي تخلى طوعاً عن ملكيّة واحدةٍ من أثمن درر الشعر العربي؟... ولماذا فعل ذلك؟...
يجري البحث عن ابن زريق في بيئة ثقافيّة، تزخر بأهمّ علماء وكتاب وشعراء الحقبة، (من قرطبة غرباً إلى نيسابور شرقاً)، ولكنه سرعان ما ينقلب إلى بحث عن سيّدة المدن: بغداد، وإلى بحث عن الذات وعن الهوية.
بين عشق المرأة وعشق القصيدة يرتحل النص في أجواء الصراع العقليّ والطائفيّ والسياسيّ، وفي ظلّ التفكك العربيّ والصراع بين قوى محليّة ودوليّة للإستحواذ على العراق وعلى أجزاء الممالك العربيّة الإسلاميّة المتخاصمة.
ما يميز هذه الرواية عن غيرها من الروايات التاريخيّة أنّها تجعل الهامشَ يحتلّ مركز الصدارة في إدارة الحدث التاريخيّ، فهو منطقة الرصد ومنطقة الفعل ومنطقة ردود الفعل في مواجهة القوّة المركزيّة، المالكة للسلطة.
نصّ يفتح للقارئ نافذة واسعة لرؤية ذاته، كفرد وكجماعة، من خلال سفر أدبيّ، فيه قدر كبير من الإمتاع، بالإضافة إلى ما يحويه من تحليل وعرض توثيقيّ لخفايا التاريخ وإمتداداته العميقة.
