لقد أتيح لكاتب هذه السطور معرفة العثمانيين وتدريس تاريخهم، والكتابة عنهم. فدولة العثمانيين هي أطول دول في التاريخ، ولا يطول عمر الدول إلا بحضارة وعدل، وحضارة العثمانيين هي ذروة تطور الحضارة الإسلامية، وهم جديرون بالاهتمام.
وقد بدأ الاهتمام بتاريخ العثمانيين وحضارتهم في أوروبا في القرن السادس عشر في معاهد الاستشراق والجامعات الأوروبية، عندما أرادت الدول الغربية - أثناء صراعها الطويل مع العثمانيين الذين تقدموا في أوروبا تقدماً أفزعها، ولم تره أوروبا من دول إسلامية من قبل - أن تدرس هذا العدو العملاق - أي العثمانيين - لذلك نشأت دراسات العثمانيين في أوروبا، عدائية للإسلام وبالتالي للعثمانيين، بغية فهم الدولة العثمانية لتقويض دعائمها، حتى يرتاح الغرب ويسود في الشرق. ثم وفد الطلاب المبتغون من العالم الإسلامي الى الجامعات الأوروبية ومعاهد أوروبا للتحصيل، وحصّلوا - ضمن ما حصّلوه - تاريخ العثمانيين وحضاراتهم، وبالتالي حصّلوا أيضاً عداء العثمانيين. ورجع هؤلاء الطلاب الى بلادهم ليدّرسوا تاريخ العثمانيين وعداء العثمانيين، وتناقلت عدة أجيال مسلمة، هذا العداء، حتى الآن، دون أن يفطن أحد الى الأصل في هذه المسألة.
معاداة العثمانيين قضية يحمل لواءها في البلدان العربية وغير العربية أصحاب المذاهب المعادية للإسلام، والسبب: إسلامية الدولة العثمانية، لذلك لا يُناصر تاريخ العثمانيين وحضاراتهم إلاّ هؤلاء الذين آمنوا بالإسلام تاريخاً وحضارة. هؤلاء وأولئك يحتاجون الى معرفة تاريخ العثمانيين وحضارتهم معرفة صحيحة وهذا هو هدف الكتاب الذي بين أيديكم.
