في ظل ظروف مريرة قاسية، حيث ينهار سلطان المسلمين السياسي والحربي في الشرقيين الأدنى والأوسط، ووقوع المسلمين بين خطرين عظيمين هما خطر التتار من الشرق وخطر المسيحية من الغرب، ظهرت قوة إسلامية فتية عالية الهمة طاقة طاغية هي التي أعادت للإسلام قوته وأسعفته إلى الوقوف في مواجهة التيارات المدمرة وصدها، والتغلب عليها وقهرها. تلك هي قوة الأتراك السلاجقة وقوة مصر الإسلامية الأيوبية والمملوكية وقوة المغرب الأقصى، وقد تم للعثمانيين بعد فتح مصر الإستيلاء على لقب الخلافة من الخليفة العباسي في مصر، ومن هنا انتقل لقب الخلافة الإسلامية إلى الدولة العثمانية، كذلك إمتد التوسع للدولة العثمانية فشمل شبه الجزيرة العربية والخليج، وظلت قوة العثمانيين بين مد وجزر حتى ظهر مصطفى كمال، فألغى السلطة والخلافة، ودخلت الدولة العثمانية في عهدها الجديد، هذه هي الدولة العثمانية التي نتناول تاريخها وحضارتها في هذا الكتاب مقسمين إياه إلى ستة فصول هي كالتالي: (الفصل الأول: الأتراك العثمانيون، الفصل الثاني: السلطان محمد الفاتح، الفصل الثالث: إتساع الدولة العثمانية في آسيا وأفريقيا، الفصل الرابع: الحركات التحررية في الدولة العثمانية والإستعمار الأوربي، الفصل الخامس: أسباب ضعف الدولة العثمانية وتفككها، الفصل السادس: الحضارة الإسلامية في الدولة العثمانية).
