"وأطرقت بين الولادة والموت، لكنني لم أجئ في سبيل بقائي، وموت الذي سرت ليلي حتى يظل بموتي حياً".
الموت والولادة، صنوان لا يفترقان، فكما يولد النقيض نقيضه، يفضي أحدهما للآخر، لكن الموت هنا ليس نهاية أو رحلة إلى العدم، بل هو خطوة حمراء نحو باب الشمس.
إن قصائد الديوان لا تخلو من إشارات إلى عدد من الرموز الدينية التي يوظفها الشاعر بمعارة فائقة بعيداً عن المباشرة وهو في ذلك يستعين بقدرته على امتلاك اللغة التي تطيعه.
"ستة أيام، وما وقتي لغير امرأة، أخلقها بيضاء فيها، هل لخلقي أحد، أم أن هذا الطين والماء بلا رؤيا، ولن تصنع كفي منهما إلا ضريحي؟ أنقذي أني قد جئت، بشيء منك يبقيني على الأرض رسولاً من تراب ودم".
"إلى امرأتي التي بعضي بنفسج خصرها، ونبيذها بعضي، إلى امرأتي التي كانت حبيبة من علت قبضاتهم في الريح أبراجاً لها. ولقد مضوا، وغداً أنا أمضي، لتبقى بعدي امرأة الذين سيجعلون الشمس راية ملكها الأبدي، و القمر المرصّع بالسنابل، تاجها الفضي. إلى الأرض".
