" فصول في التاريخ والحضارة" كتاب يجمع بين طياته التراث الإنتاجي للدكتور "جمادي الساحلي" المتناثرة في الصحف والمجلات والمكون كمن دراسات دونها حول التاريخ بوجه عام، والتاريخ التونسي بوجه خاص، ودراسات أخرى أسهم فيها في بعض الندوات العلمية، ومقدمات لكتب كان قد ترجمها إلى اللغة العربية، أو شارك في تحقيقها، هذا إلى جانب فصوله لم يسبق له أن نشرها قبل هذا الحين، وتيسيراً للمطالعة والمراجعة.
فقد قسم المؤلف متن كتابه هذا إلى أربعة أقسام جمع في الأول الدراسات والبحوث التاريخية مثل: المدرسة التاريخية التونسية الحديثة، الوحدة المغربية عبر التاريخ، ظهور الحركة الإصلاحية في تونس، الجنرال خير الدين وتفكيره الإصلاحي، الأمير شكيب أرسلان وانبعاث الحزب السوري الجديد... الخ.
وفي القسم الثاني جمع المقالات والفصول التي نشرها في بعض الصحف التونسية، لا سيما منها جريدة "الصدى" تحت عنوان "أحاديث بمناسبات، وضمن القسم الثالث: بعض ما كتبه من فصول لترجمة حياة عدد من الأعلام التونسيين مثل الشيخ إبراهيم الرياحي، الجنرال محمد بن الخوجة، المنصف باي، الأديب الهادي العبيدي وغيرهم، وأخيراً جمع في القسم الرابع كل ما نشره من مقالات في السنوات الأخيرة منها نذكر: محاضرات في تاريخ المذاهب والأديان، روح التحرر في القرآن، تونس الشهيدة، المنصف بالي والحركة المنصفية، الحركة الوطنية التونسية بين الحربين.
