"أوابد العقاد .. بل كتاباته على إطلاقها ليس فيها ما ينبذه القارىء أو يلتفت إليه بعض الإلتفات، والخوف عندها من الكظة لا من الجوع، وهي تبدو دائماً أغرب ما تكون حين تراها أصدق ما تكون، ولا يزيد فيها معنى قط على حساب معنى آخر، بل تتسابق فيها الروحانية واللباقة الفنية أحياناً سباقاً لا تدري فيه من منها السابقة ومن منها المسبوقة ...". لعل هذا المفتتح من (في رحاب العقاد) مما ساقه عامر العقاد في كتابه المعنون "الكلمات الأخيرة للعقاد" يفسر مكانة الأديب والمفكر العربي الكبير عباس محمود العقاد في حياة المؤلف الذي رافقه لعقود وكتب عنه كل ما يعرفه في هذا الكتاب. لقد كان العقاد، رحمه الله، ينوي في أخريات أيامه أن يؤلف كتاباً عن القراءة عنوانه: "القراءة فن"، وكان حريصاً على الوفاء بوعده، إلا أن القدر حال دجون وفاء العقاد بوعده لأول مرة في حياته ...". ويقول في مكان آخر "إن الأحياء الدنيا هي مسودات الخلق التي تتراءى فيها نيات الخالق كما تتراءى في النسخة المنقحة، وقد تظهر من المسودة أكثر مما تظهر بعد التنقيح". وكان هذا جواب العقاد على سؤال: ليس من اللازم أن يطلع الإنسان على كتاب عن الحشرات ...". هكذا هو العقاد عاش حياته للفكر، عاش وحياته للقلم وبه ...
