خليل السواحري أحد أعلام الأدب العربي في فلسطين والأردن رغم قلة نتاجه مقارنة مع أبناء جيله الآخرين ومنذ أن بدأ نشاطه الأدبي في الستينات وعلى أثر النكبة تمكن السواحري أن يصور بصدق مجتمعه الرازح تحت الاحتلال وأن يجسد الواقع كما هو تزييف أو رتوش وبأسلوب أقرب غلى الصورة الفوتوغرافية الصادقة التي تنقل الواقع بأمانة.
ويقدم هذا الكتاب رصداً موضوعياً لقصص السواحري قام بها عدد من الكتاب والمبدعون خلال فترات زمنية مختلفة ووفق رؤى وطرق منهجية عديدة. ومقالة الدكتور محمد عبيد الله التي جاءت في القسم الأول من الكتاب تهدف إلى التعريف ببدايات السواحري وجهوده التي أسهمت في بلورة تيار قصصي جديد وقد لاحظ الكاتب (محمد عبيد الله) أن السواحري يمتلك رؤية نقدية تمكنه من تحديد مسيرة القصة سواء ما يخص وتجربته الذاتية أو التجارب الأخرى. أما في القسم الثاني فقد تناولت المقالات فيه مجموعة السواحري الرئيسيتين (مقهى الباشورة) (وتحولات سليمان التايه).
إذ يرى عمر شبانة أن (مقهى الباشورة) تنبه إلى التحولات الكبيرة الاجتماعية بخاصة التي رافقت الاحتلال.أما د. محمد شافي فقد أشار إلى هذه المجموعة التي تتميز بواقعيتها الصلبة وهي واقعية تشد القارئ بقوة إلى مضمون الشخصية وإلى بعديها الزماني والمكاني من جهة أخرى يرى محمد قرانيا أن أقاصيص المجموعة ينتظمها خيط واحد من التماسك العضوي والتركيز المكثف على الإنسان العربي يعيش فوق أرضه وما يعانيه من ظلم وقهر، في حين رأى محمود الريحاوي إن هذه المجموعة لون من الأدب المحلي الوطني الذي يتلمس الكشف عن مواطن المقاومة والرفض حتى في أشد المواقف وضعفاً. إن هذه الدراسة جديرة بأن تقرأ كاملة إذ لن تغني تلك التلخيصات المجتزأة عن قراءة النصوص كاملة للخروج بفكرة متكاملة عن أديب كالسواحري لا يختلف اثنان على موهبته وإن تعددت وجهات النظر فيما يخص كتاباته.
