لم يكن الوعي بالقضية الفلسطينية والقدس العربية على خشبة المسرح العربي، وإرتباطهما الحيوي والمصيري بالقضايا العربية المصيرية مفاجئاً أو مفتعلاً، وإنما كان نتاجاً طبيعياً لإتضاح قسمات وجه النضال العربي من ناحية، وبروز المقاومة الفلسطينية وقضية القدس العربية من ناحية أخرى؛ كقوة ذات أثر بالغ وفكر متقدم، يلتقي في مضمونه التزاوج الحتمي، الذي أخذ يتضح في الوطن العربي بين قضيتي التحرير الوطني والتحرير الإجتماعي، أي ضرورة التغيير الشامل.
ولم تكن المقاومة الفلسطينية والقدس العربية؛ موضوعاً غائباً عن المسرح العربي المعاصر طيلة ما يزيد عن نصف قرن، ولكنها بغير شك قد تطورت في الوجدان العربي المعاصر لإحداث حزيران / جوان الدامية ومع الإنتفاضة الكبرى وثورة الحجارة؛ تطوراً يكاد يكون كيفياً، إنعكاساً لما آلت إليه الأمورغوراً وعمقاً في الوضوح والتبلور.
ومعنى ذلك أن المقاومة الفلسطينية / قضية وموضوعها للمسرح، قد اكتسب على مر العقود والسنين أبعاداً لم تكن لها من قبل، وكذلك الإستجابة الفنية لهذه القضية قد تباينت حقاً من كاتب لآخر، ومن مخرج لآخر ومن فرقة مسرحية لأخرى، ولكنها احتفت في النهاية بالمقاومة كطريق وحيد للخلاص.
هذا الطريق الذي لم تلح بدابته أمام هؤلاء الكتاب والمسرحيين أنفسهم، وغيرهم قبل أن تطفو معالمه على سطح الواقع، بل كانت الغالبية منهم قد وصلت بأقصى ما تتمتع به من درجات الموهبة والثقافة إلى رؤيا الطريق المسدود.
