ترتكز الرؤية الشعرية عند محمد عريقات في "أكلَتني الشّجرة" على مفهوم التشخيص بوصفه أسلوباً فنياً مهماً ينطلق من جوهر الرؤية القائمة على فكرة الإنزياح الوظيفي والمرجعي للشيء (الضوء، الشمس، الديك، الحجر، الماء، الطريق، وغيرها من ألفاظ جاءت في النص لتأسيس هوية دلالية جديدة ربما تعجز الشخصية الإنسانية عن تحقيقها، وهو ما تمظهر في غالبية قصائد الديوان "يسجل الضوء... عن ردم الظهيرة... ينظرُ طائرٌ إلى الشمس... يزجرُه المغيبُ... بكلماتِ الأمس ذاتها... بعرفَ الديكِ... بزجاجة العطر... المتحطمةِ على حجرٍ... أكلَ الظلّ نصف ضوِئهِ...".
من هنا، يفهم المتلقي دلالة التحول الوظيفي للشيء داخل النص بعد تشخيصه، ومن هنا أيضاً قدم لنا الشاعر محمد عريقات تجربة شعرية متكاملة في مضامينها وأبعادها الإنسانية.
