يعد كتاب "الغيبه" أثر ثمين من عيون التراث الديني الإسلامي خصّه المؤلف أبو عبد الله البغدادي في الإمام بحجة المهدي المنتظر، وصدّره بطائفة من النصوص على إمامته عليه السلام وأتبع ذلك في الأحاديث الدالة على أن الله لا يخلي الأرض من حجّة، ويذكر أيضاً عدة أحاديث في غيبة الإمام المهدي، وصفته، وسيرته، وحكمه، وآياته، وفضله، وكذا العلامات التي تكون قبل قيام القائم، ومواضيع أخرى كلها تتعلق بالإمام الثاني عشر المهدي، منها النصوص الدالة على إمامة الحجة والروايات الطثيرة التي دوّنها أصحاب الحديث وأثبتوها في كتبهم المصنّفة.
ولأهمية هذا الكتاب الذي عدّه المؤرخون أقدم مصنف حول الإمام المهدي دأب الأستاذ "فارس حسون كريم" إلى التحقيق فيه بالإعتماد على عدد من النسخ الأصلية المتواجدة في بيروت وطهران وذلك بالمقابلة بين النسختين المطبوعتين مع بعضهما مع الإشارة إلى الإختلافات المهمة الموجودة بين النسخ المخطوطة أو المطبوعة منها، وكذا تصحيح الآيات القرآنية وتخريج الأحاديث الشريفة بالرجوع إلى الكتب الحيثية المعتبرة، وضبط اسماء الأعلام والرواة اعتماداً على كتب الرجال، وشرح بعض المفردات اللغوية المبهمة على القارىء...
وعليه يبدأ الكتاب بـ: ترجمة المؤلف، وما قيل حول الكتاب، والنسخ المعتمدة في التحقيق، ومنهج التحقيق ثم تقسيم الكتاب إلى أبواب وفصول فيما روي عن الإمام الحجة وأحوال أهل البيت عند خروج القائم وقبله وبعده، ومدة ملك القائم بعد قيامه إلى آخر ذلك مما عرّف عنه وكُتب ...
