كثيرون هم الذين تصوروا في صيف العام 1982 وبعده، أن الاجتياح الإسرائيلي للبنان هو مجرد عملية عسكرية ذات أهداف فلسطينية فقط، أي أنها لا تتضمن أهدافاً لبنانية خالصة، وعليه فإن وهم عودة "جيش الدفاع الإسرائيلي" من عمليته ظل سائداً فترة طويلة وما زال. هذا الكتاب يتناول أحد جوانب الحرب الإسرائيلية على لبنان في مفصلها الاقتصادي، انطلاقاً من حقيقة أن المشروع الإسرائيلي للبنان بوصفه مشروعاً تفكيكياً للكيان اللبناني، يستطيع معه تأمين سيطرة دائمة على المناطق المحتلة في الجنوب والبقاع الغربي وراشيا. لكن المؤلف لا يكتفي برصد مسار عملية الاجتياح الإسرائيلي الاقتصادي للبنان منذ لحظتها الأولى، وآلية الإغراق ثم الإلحاق، وسياسية تحويل هذه المناطق إلى ضفة شمالية والردود العربية على تحويل لبنان رأس جسر نحو اختراق الأسواق العربية، بل يعود أيضاً إلى قراءة تفصيلية لوضع القطاعات الاقتصادية، انطلاقاً من سؤال أساسي، أو فرضية أساسية هي أين أصبحت الأسس المادية لوحدة البلاد بعد الاجتياح والاحتلال الإسرائيلي. مما يجعل هذا الكتاب ضرورة لا غنى عنها لإدراك أحد الجوانب المعقدة للاحتلال الإسرائيلي. مما يجعل هذا الكتاب ضرورة لا غنى عنها لإدراك أحد الجوانب المعقدة للاحتلال الإسرائيلي للبنان.
