مؤلف هذا الكتاب هو أحمد بن مصطفى بن خليل، الشهير بطاش كبرى زاده، أحد العلماء المسلمين الأتراك الذين ساهموا بنصيب وافرٍ في الثقافة العربية. ويعد كتابه هذا من أوسع المصنفات العربية التراثية في تقسيم العلوم وأغزرها قاطبة وهو أحد الكتب الموسوعية الجامعة لأصناف العلوم وموضوعاتها وعلمائها وقد بين في هذا الكتاب الأمور المذكورة في كل علم أصلاً وفرعاً كما بين أسماء الكتب المؤلفة فيها وأسماء مؤلفيها وقد بدأ بذكر التصانيف الأصلية والمختصرات ثم الشروح وعند ذكر الكتاب أو المؤلَّف يعرج على ذكر مؤلفه فيبين ترجمته وسيرة حياته وقد عمد المحقق إلى تحقيق النص وضبطه فأعاد تبويب المادة على أساس العلم المستقل لا على أساس تقسيم طاش كبرى زاده له، وأورد العلوم وموادها متتالية تبعاً للتسلسل الألفبائي وبحسب رسم كل علم وتتابع حروفه وضبط بعض الحركات بالتنوين عند اللزوم، وقد سبر وحصر في النص العناصر التالية: آيات القرآن، أحاديث الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم، الأعلام، أسماء الكتب، المصطلحات الغريبة، الفرق والقبائل والأمكنة كما تم تخريج الآيات الكريمة والأحاديث الشريفة وتصويبها عند الاقتضاء، مع التعريف بالأعلام في الهامش بالاعتماد على أكثر من مرجع مع ذكر المراجع مختصرة، إضافة إلى التعريف بأسماء الكتب وأصحابها.
وقد وضع للكتاب عدة فهارس تشتمل على فهرس أسماء الكتب ألفبائياً، فهرس الأعلام والفرق والأماكن تبعاً للتسلسل الألفبائي وبحسب ورودها، وزود الكتاب بمسند للعلوم بالإنكليزية والفرنسية وبثلاث جداول عربي إنكليزي فرنسي، إنكليزي فرنسي عربي، وفرنسي إنكليزي عربي.
