وبعد الجمع الوفير للأبيات انتقيت نخبة لأثبتها في هذا الديوان وكان معيار الاختيار الوحيد هو الذائقة الشعرية التي تعتمد على التعدد والشمولية وتنوع الأفكار وتعدد أغراض الشعر والشعراء وعرض السيف في صوره وأشكاله المختلفة كما هو في يد الفارس في المعارك صائلاً جائلاً فارياً منتصراً.
إن بساطة المعاني في وصف السيف تظهر في صليل الصدق الذي ينبعث في كل لفظة من ألفاظ البيت.
هذا الصدق في الوصف هو أحد مصادر إعجاباً بالشعر الذي يبدو في مظهرين، في الصدق الأدبي والنفسي، ففي صدقه النفسي تبرز العواطف لايزوقها ولا يداورها ولا يثيرها ولا يكفكف ثورتها، وإنما تتوقد توقد النار التي لا تخبو، وفي الصدق الأدبي نرى الأداء الذي ليس فيه جهداً وصناعة، وإنما يتدفق على لسانه تدفق الماء من المنبع الصافي. وهنا تكمن الأخيلة والبراعة الأدبية عند الشاعر العربي في أساليبه البيانية وبأسلوب مباشر، تلتمع وراء كل كلمة في التعبير صورة من صور السيف المشرقة الغاضبة المبتعدة المقبلة.
