لقد حاز الإسلام في تاريخه الحافل بالمآثر، الشخصيات المفكرة النيرة ذات الفهم الثاقب، فكانوا الرادين عنه كيد الكائدين، وضلال المضلين، المجددين روح الأمة من خلال ما سطروه في مصنفاتهم التي أجمعت الأمة على تلقيها بالقبول، لما حوته في طياتها من صحيح المنقول المطابق لصريح المعقول، فدرسوها حق الدراسة واستخلصوا منها الدروس والعبر. ومن أمثلة ذلك كتاب بستان العارفين للإمام النووي الذي جمع فيه ما اقتطفه من زهور البساتين وما ارتشفه من قطرات البحار، حتى أنتج مصنفاً من تلك الحديقة الغناء، فصل فيه أحكام وأحوال أولئكم العارفين وبين فيه دستور الدارسين، فكان مصنفاً لا غنى للدارس عنه.
