تسيطر على اليهود عقلية التمجيد الزائد لكل ما يتصل بهم وبتراثهم. وقد نشطت المنظمات الصهيونية إثر حرب 1967 في مجال إحياء التراث اليهودي بين جيل الشباب في أميركا وأوروبا فأقامت عدداً من المؤتمرات والاجتماعات لدراسة هذا الموضوع. وأوفدت الأساتذة والباحثين لإلقاء المحاضرات في الجامعات الغربية، حول الحضارة اليهودية، والقيم الروحية والأخلاقية التي تشع من هذه الحضارة. إلا أن اليهود لم يتغير خلقهم ولم يتأنس وجدانهم، من الألف الثاني قبل المسيح، إلى القرن العشرين بعده، يحاولون إحياء جملة عواطف مسربلة بالدين، متسترة بالعقيدة تحمل روح مجتمع قديم، عاش بدائي العقلية، مضطرب النفسية، ضيق النظرة، محدود الأفق، تتحصر رسالته الأخلاقية في زرع بذور الانحلال الخلقي. وفي الأمر بالانتقام من الشعوب والغدر بها والحقد عليها.
ويحاولون بفكرهم الديني المتجمد في مفاهيمه، أن يتطاولوا على زمان جديد، وتجديد دويلة اللقطاء، البربرية، البدائية، إسرائيل المشوهة في جوهرها وإنسانيتها ومفاهيمها، ويعملون على بعث التفكير اليهودي القديم، الذي يدور حول محور واحد هو الأرض. الاتجاه السياسي الصارخ في هذا التفكير الذي يدعو إلى مثل هذه الاتجاهات، لا علاقة له بالدين، ولا بالرسالات الدينية. فاليهودي المتطفئ إنسانياً منذ قرون عديدة، ويعيش في حالة من المتحجرات، حاول ويحاول بمساعدة الغرب المتخلف إنسانياً، والمتقدم مادياً وصناعياً وتكنولوجياً، أن يجدد تحجره في دولة عرقية عسكرية، موهماً الغرب أنه تجديد لحضارة عريقة، وأمجاد سالفة، وقيم أخلاقية عظيمة، بينما هو ليس إلا تشنجاً لبقايا متحجرة تحتفظ بأساطيرها وأوهامها ومعتقداتها البائدة منذ ثلاثة آلاف سنة. حول هذا الموضوع يدور البحث في هذا الكتاب حيث يقدم الدكتور جورجي كنعان عرضاً موجزاً لسجل أمجاد اليهود الأخلاقية، كما دونها أخبارهم وكهانهم في كتاب التوراة، العهد القديم، التراث اليهودي، ما هي إلا أوهام وهي تثير في نفوسهم شعور الكبرياء والفخر، والمباهاة بما قدموه للعالم من قيم أخلاقية وروحية وأفكار إنسانية، ورسالة اجتماعية، تعتبره منارة خلاص لجميع الشعوب.
