يحتاج المدرس في تدريسه إلى الإحاطة بالقواعد الأساسية التي تعينه على ما يقصده في عمله من إستيعاب الطالب دروسه في يُسْر وسهولة وتمكّن، وبناء شخصيته على نحو يتسق مع فلسفة التعليم المستهدفة في مجتمعه، وصقل مواهبه وقدراته حتى تمارس دورها على أكمل وجه بغير عجز أو قصور، وتحديد ما يدرسه الطلاب في مدارسهم وكيف يدرسونه وهو ما تحاول التربية إيجاد إطار مناسب للأمرين.
لهذا جاء هذا الكتاب وهو عبارة عن مجموعة محاضرات في طرق تدريس اللغة العربية والتربية الإسلامية، ألقاها المؤلف على طلبة المعلمين مختصرة، وقدمها للمدرسين في دوراتهم مفصلة، ثم درسها لطلبة كلية التربية بجامعة الفاتح مزيدة منقحة؛ وقد اقتصر على المراحل الإعدادية والثانوية ودور المعلمين، ولم يجعل طرق التدريس في المرحلة الإبتدائية ضميمة لهذه المراحل إدراكاً لخطورة هذه المرحلة وإستحقاقها لكتاب قائم برأسه.
وقد جعل الكتاب في قسمين: الأول، بطرق التدريس وما يتعلق بها، والثاني، جمع إلى النماذج التطبيقية فوائد يلمّ بها المدرس في عمله، وأخرى يُلزم بها طلابه؛ حتى تسْلم لغتهم من الغموض، وتخلو من الأخطاء؛ وقبل هذين القسمين كانت إلمامة ضرورية بقواعد التدريس العامة، تُوقِف المدرس على آراء التربويين من علماء النفس في الأسس التي يقصدها المدرس لبلوغ عمله مبتغاه.
