تبحث هذه الدراسة في العلاقة بين الدين والسياسة، وتعتبر الأولى من نوعها - في اللغة العربية في تطرقها للأبعاد السياسة لظاهرة الحوار بين الأديان وبشكل خاص الحوار الإسلامي المسيحي، بصورتها المؤسسية الساعية نحو الإتفاق والتقارب، والتي لم تظهر إلا في أواسط القرن العشرين.
وقد تمكن المؤلف من إبراز الطابع السياسي للظاهرة في تطورها وأهدافها وخصائصها ودوافعها، وكذلك في المفاهيم والقضايا الواقعية التي تناولتها، وقد استعان المؤلف لبلوغ هذا الهدف بمجموعة من النصوص متناولاً إياها نقداً وتحليلاً، ساعياً إلى بيان ما اكتنف الظاهرة من سلبيات وإيجابيات في أبعادها الفكرية والحركية تمهيداً لوضع أسس ومبادئ عامة يمكن أن ينطلق منها أهل العلم في الحكم على الظاهرة.
وتجدر الإشارة إلى أن هذه الدراسة وإن كانت في أصلها عبارة عن رسالة ماجستير إلا أنها لم تكن أكاديمية نظرية مجردة، بل بنيت كذلك على معايشة المؤلف للظاهرة من خلال مشاركته الفعلية في بعض مداولات الحوار في الأردن وألمانيا، والتي مكنته من تبادل المعرفة ووجهات النظر مع بعض رموز الحوار - في الوقت الحاضر - إقليمياً ودولياً، مما اكسب هذا الكتاب مزيداً من المصداقية والموضوعية.
