يُجمع المؤرّخون على أنّ المسيحيّة كانت منتشرةً في جنوب الجزيرة العربيّة في عصور ما قبل الإسلام، إلاّ أنّ الغموض يكتنفُ طريقةَ دخول تلك الديانة إلى ذلك القسم من الجزيرة، وزمانَ دخولها إليه، وأماكنَ إنتشارها فيه، وعقائدَها التي شاعت بين سكّانه.
غير أنّ الدراسات الحديثة التي عالجت هذا الموضوع، وجلّها بلغات أجنبيّة، كثيرة، وهي تلقي أضواء من شأنها أن تنير عدّة جوانب من تاريخ المسيحيّة الداكن في تلك المنطقة.
إنّ ما سَعَينا إليه، في هذه الدراسة، هو رسم لوحة لأوضاع مسيحيّة جنوب الجزيرة قبل الإسلام، مستفيدين ممّا توصّلت إليه الأبحاث الحديثة في هذا المضمار.
وقد حرصنا على أن نشمل في دراستنا أهمّ التقاليد التي تتّصل بهذا الموضوع، فلم نُغيّب لا أساطير ولا الروايات غير المثبّتة تاريخيّاً، إضافة إلى الأحداث التاريخيّة المؤكّدة، وما يحيط ببعضها من صعوبات، إن لجهة تحديد تواريخها، أو توضيح إتّصالها بالتطوّرات الدينيّة والسياسيّة التي شهدها الجنوب والشرق عامّة.
