حثنا ديننا الحنيف على العلم بوساطة التعلم والكتابة من خلال كتابه المجيد، فكان هذا تعبيراً عن القراءة والكتابة، ولا بد للكتابة من كاتب يكون جديراً بهذه المنزلة التي أرادها الله سبحانه وتعالى له من خلال بذل قصارى جهده في مجال العلم، والتتبع، لذا كان علينا جميعاً معرفة أصول علم الكتابة من خلال التوفر على ما تركه القدماء وما سار عليه تابعوهم (المحدثون) وجمعه ليفيد منه الدارسون، ولما كان مقرر (التدريبات اللغوية) أو يسميه بعضهم (التطبيقات اللغوية) أو مقرر (اللغة العربية العامة) يشتمل في قسمه الأول على (أصول الكتابة)، وضعنا هذه المفردات لتسد الفراغ في هذا القسم، وقد ارتأينا أن نفرد لها جزءاً خاصاً بها، ثم نلحق ما يتصل في كتاب ثان يكون مكملاً لهذا يعتني بتحليل النص، ومعالجة الأخطاء اللغوية الشائعة، لذا اشتمل هذا الجزء على تمهيد، وستة فصول تحدثنا في التمهيد عن نشأة الكتابة عند الإنسان، وتطورها وجهود العرب المسلمين في تطور هذه الكتابة، وأنواع الكتابة. أما الفصل الأول فكان كلاماً مفصلاً على الحروف العربية، وأنماط ترتيب حروف الهجاء وأنواع الحركات في العربية، وهمزتي الوصل والقطع ومواضعهما، ثم رسم الهمزة إذا كانت أولية، أو وسطية أو متأخرة.
وفي الفصل الثاني تحدثنا عن الألف اللينة، ومواقع رسمها والفرق بين التاء المفتوحة والتاء المربوطة، وكيف نميز بين نطق الضاد، والظاء ورسمها، وختمنا الفصل بالفرق بين رسم الدال والذال ونطقهما.
أما الفصل الثالث فقد شمل الكلام فيه على الحروف التي تزاد في الكلمة، والحروف التي تحذف من الكلمة، مستعيناً بالشواهد والأمثلة، وما يكتب منفصلاً، وما يوصل بغير من الكلمات في الكتابة، وأطلقنا عليه (الفصل والوصل) مثلما سماه علماء الإملاء.
وكان الفصل الرابع خاتمة للكتاب فقد حوى (العدد وأحكامه( متحدثين عنه بصورة مستفيضة مدعومة بالأمثلة، ثم أردفناه بموضوع مهم وهو (علامات الترقيم).
