أبو شراعة من شعراء الدولة العباسية الذين لم تَمْسَخْ عُروبَتَهُم الإختلاطاتُ الإجتماعيةُ التي طَغَتْ على مُجمَلِ نواحي الحياة، بل بقي محافظاً على ثقافة البادية في داخل روحه، وما عكسه ذلك على فصاحة كلامه، وأصالة العربية المحْضَةِ في شِعْرِهِ، مع تجديد ملحوظٍ في الأغراض التي تناولها في شعره، والتي هي من سمات الشِّعْرِ الذي سادَ في إبان تلك الحقبة.
فلا ريب في أنَّهُ يُمَثِّل نمطاً مُتميزاً من أنماط شعراء الفترةِ العبّاسية، وهذا ما لفت نظر العارفين بدواخل الشعر.
