هو من أوائل المحامين الفلسطينيين الذين تلقوا شهادة المحاماة من معهد الحقوق في دمشق عام 1936 وهو من مؤسسي الحزب الشيوعي في فلسطين وأحد مؤسسي لجنة الدفاع عن الأراضي العربية.
دافع نقارة منذ عام 1948 عن حقوق الفلسطينيين الذين تعرضوا للطرد والتشرد، كما دافع خلال عقود عن حقوق أبناء الجليل العرب في القضايا التي رفعوها ضد الحكم العسكري أمام محكمة العدل العليا.

يعالج هذا الكتاب مراحل مهمة من تاريخ فلسطين المعاصر عبر استخدام الأوراق العائلية والمذكرات واليوميات والصور الفوتوغرافية كمصادر أولية. فيتناول في الباب الأول منه المصادر الأرشيفية العديدة المتوفرة والتي تحتوي على مصادر مهمة لدراسة التاريخ الفلسطيني مقدماً تقويماً لمحتويات الأرشيف، ومنها الأرشيفات الإسرائيلية وأرشيفات الكنائس المقدسية وسجلات المحاكم الشرعية والمحاكم المدنية والعسكرية، إضافة إلى سجل المباني في فلسطين. ويخصص الباب الثاني من الكتاب لدراسات تستخدم أوراقاً عائلية، وخصوصاً لأفراد قاموا بأدوار مختلفة في تاريخ فلسطين في القرن العشرين. وفي الباب الثالث، يستخدم عدد من البحاثة أرشيفات عامة من طابع آخر مثل أوراق "الطابو" والسجلات الشرعية والصور الفوتوغرافية وسجلات البوليس البريطاني. ويشمل الباب الرابع يوميات النخبة الفلسطينية خلال الانتداب البريطاني، بالإضافة إلى الوقف في مدينة القدس استناداً إلى السجلات والمخطوطات العثمانية، بالإضافة إلى الإضاءة على كريمة عبود، وهي أول مصورة فوتوغراف في فلسطين.
مجمل الدراسات هذه قدمت كأوراق في مؤتمر عقدته مؤسسة الدراسات المقدسية في جامعة بير زيت في صيف عام 2008، وفي طيات هذا الكتاب أفضل المقالات التي قدمت خلاله.
