بات مصطلح "الخطاب" جزءاً لا يتجزأ من المناخ الثقافي السائد. فهناك الخطابات السياسية والنقابية والنسوية والإعلامية والتربوية والدينية، وكلها لا تنفصل عن صراح القوى الإجتماعية، وعن المعرفة التي هي أداة السلطة لبتَ وعي زائف. إن تحليل الخطاب يكون، إذاً، وسيلة لنزع الأقنعة، وانتقالاً من المحتوى الظاهر إلى المحتوى الباطن حيث تكمن المصالح المتضاربة بين المستغلَين. فما من خطاب بريء، أو محايد، إلا نادراً، ولئن طرح نفسه على هذه الشالة فهو يرتبط لسياق عام خارجي يتخرفته ويضيئه، مردَ ذلك إلى أن الخطاب ذو وجهين: إنه ممارسة لغوية وممارسة اجتماعية في آن واحد، ولا يمكن فهمه أو تأويله إلا استناداً إلى هذين الجانبين.
من هنا سعى الباحث إلى سدَ فراغ في المكتبة العربية عامة، والأكاديمية خاصة، لا سيَما أن مادة تحليل الخطاب أدخلت في صلب المواد الأدبية الجامعية، وذلك في معظم الأقطار العربية.
ومن أجل تسهيل المعلومة وترسيخها في الذهن، عمل المؤلف على استبعاد النظريات المتضاربة، فاقتصر على الضروري منها، واتبعها بنصوص تطبيقية تثري الدراسة، وتحيط بجوانب الموضوع إحاطة عملية لا تجريدية.
