يحاول الباحث من خلال هذه الدراسة التاريخية الديموغرافية الطوبوغرافية الإسهام في تحليل العوامل الطبيعية والجغرافية من حيث البنية الجيولوجية والسطح والمناخ والتربة والنباتات الطبيعية والحيوان للمنطقة وبالتالي الإسهام أو توجيه الدعوة للجهات ذات الاختصاص لإجراء دراسات تخصصية وتحليل مميزات الأهوار زمانياً ومكانياً للوقوف على إمكانية مساهمة الأهوار في سد الاحتياجات المائية لمختلف الاستعمالات، والكشف عن المشاكل والمعوقات المتعلقة بمياه المنطقة وعلى وجه الخصوص فيما يتعلق بالملوحة وشدة الجريان ومقدار المياه الداخلة إلى الأهوار بشكل فصلي أو سنوي أو حتى شهري، والوقوف من خلال الدراسات المعمقة التي يدعو لها لحل للمشاكل سواء كانت طبيعية أو بشرية.
وإذا ما عدنا لمتن هذه الدراسة نجد أنها تضم بين طياتها ستة فصول، تناول أولها الأهوار من حيث التكوين ومصادر الحياة، والمفاهيم الجغرافية السائدة في منطقة الأهوار وحدودها ومساحتها. أما الثاني فخصص للاستيطان والذي وصفه الباحث بالاستيطان القديم والاستيطان بعد الفتح الإسلامي، وطبيعة الاستيطان الحديث، واتصال سكان الأهوار بالمدن والهجرات وأسبابها.
أما الفصل الثالث فتناول ثروات الأهوار من حيث النباتات وأنواعها والحيوانات من غير الطيور والأسماك وأصنافها والطيور المهاجرة والمستقرة، وكذلك الأسماك وتحركاتها وهجراتها وتوالدها. ودرس الفصل الرابع الحالات الاجتماعية، مثل طبيعة السكن والصناعة والزراعة وملكية الأرض وعلاقات الناس. وكذلك تطرقت إلى حالات اجتماعية أخرى مثل اللباس، والأوبئة المنتشرة، والصيد، والزواج، وما إلى ذلك من العلاقات الاجتماعية.
فيما تناول الفصل الخامس أهم القبائل القاطنة في الأهوار وعلى حافاتها، والمشيخة والعلاقات الإنسانية وعمل سكان الأهوار في المواسم، وذكرت أيضاً شخصيات مهمة ذات أثر تاريخي في منطقة الأهوار. والمبحث الأخير في هذا الفصل كان يدور حول القضاء العشائري وشروطه. وكان الفصل السادس قد تم تخصيصه للمعالم السياحية في الأهوار ومقترحات في سبيل تطويرها. وأشير فيه أيضاً إلى الآثار وبعض المواقع الأخرى ذات الأهمية.
