يحتوي هذ الكتاب على سبع دراسات تلتقي كلها في البحث في علم اللغة المقارن وعلم التأثيل مُسْقطَين على الدراسات المصطلحية والترجمية، كما تحتوي هذه الدراسات على معلومات تاريخية عن العربية وعلاقتها بأخواتها من أسرة اللغات الجزيرية ("السامية" سابقاً) من جهة، وتثير لدى القارئ والباحث التأمل في مجال الدراسات المتعلقة بالمعجم التاريخي للغة العربية من جهة أخرى.
وتبرز هذه الدراسات أهمية توظيف علم التأثيل وعلم اللغة المقارن ودورهما في ضبط المفاهيم الإصطلاحية للمصطلحات العربية، وتأصيل معانيها وذلك بمقارنة الجذور المؤسسة للمفاهيم الإصطلاحية مع الجذور المجانسة لها في اللغات الجزيرية التي ترتبط العربية بها بقرابة لغوية على مستوى الاصوات والصرف والنحو والمفردات، وهي المستويات الأربعة التي بناءً عليها يحكم بالقرابة اللغوية بين اللغات من عدمها.
كما تبرهن الدراسات التالية على أنه لا يمكن الإستغناء عن توظيف علم التأثيل وعلم اللغة المقارن في الدراسات المعجمية بشكل عام والدراسات المصطلحية بشكل خاص، وبالأخص في عملية إستقراء المصطلح الأجني المعرّب إستقراءً صحيحاً وإستجلاء مفاهيمه الأصلية إستجلاءً واضحاً.
ونعتقد أن عدم توظيف علم التأثيل وعلم اللغة المقارن في الدراسات المعجمية والمصطلحية قد يؤدي إلى الوقوع في الخطأ عند تعريب المصطلح الأجني وفي وسوء التقدير عند صياغته في العربية، وإلى فتح الباب على مصراعيه أمام محاولات تزوير الدلالات وإثارة الشبهات اللغوية وعولمة اللسان العربي.
