"عند مرقد السيدة" عنوان ينتمي إلى حقل المسرح التجريدي بامتياز. ويشغل مفتاحاً مناسباً لولوج الرواية. وبهذا المعنى يغدو المسرح في الرواية واقعاً معيشاً تناوله "حازم كمال الدين" مع كافة عناصر الحركة والتعبير الجسدي والإيمائي الذي يطرح إشكالية التغريب داخل المكون الرئيسي للإنسان ويقصد به الروح والجسد، حيث يتداخل صوت الراوي مع روح الشخصية المركزية في المسرحية، هذه الروح عبر عنها بامرأة هلامية الوجه تتحرك ببطء بإيقاع جسدي ملفت يمكن أن يؤول بطرق مختلفة...
أما الشخصية الثانية في العمل، فيسرد من خلالها الراوي قصة سلوى منصور، الصحافية العراقية التي عانت الإضطهاد في مجتمعها، ويتم التطرق في الحديث إلى أسماء نساء تم اغتيالهن من قبل نظام صدام، أو من قبل الأميركان أو غيرهم ...
وتأتي الشخصية الثالثة "سيدة الوركاء" جاءت في العمل كتعبير ملحمي يعود بنا إلى زمن جلجامش، وهو تعبير عن تحدي المرأة للرجل وما ينتج عنه من ردات فعل ... يقول كمال الدين على لسانها: "أراني أهبط إلى الأرض من الآن فصاعداً يجب علي أن أقضي أيامي بين البشر. أنا آلهة منفية على الأرض. أفتح عيني فأراني مبحرة في مشحوف، متوغلة في أعماق المياه. أنا أترحل، أعوم، عبر القصب اللانهائي حتى أصل إلى قرية، عند مشارف الأهوار. أرى نساء. كاهنات يتوغلن في أعماق بحر القصب. رأيت أنني أصل قرية مشارفة لحدود صحراء الأهوار. أتبع البشر. فأرى من بعيد تمثالاً كبيراً ...". وهذه الشخصيات النسائية الثلاث الوحدة الكلية لموضوع المسرحية الذي يتناول في مضمونه القمع والقهر تتعرض له المرأة العربية في بعض المجتمعات العربية في إشارة إلى بلد الكاتب ...
