هذا الكتاب – المفردات والأسلوب عند رينيه جيرار – هو ترجمة الطبعة الفرنسية لكتاب (Le vocabulaire de Rene Girard) من تأليف: شارل أموند، ومن ترجمة: خليل شريط. وأما المفردات، فهي تعبير عن فكر رينيه جيرار، مثل فرضياته، تعرض التحالف المتناقض بين الأصالة والجدة، كاتباً وناشراً منذ أكثر من أربعين عاماً، مترجم إلى أكثر من عشرين لغة، مدروس ومناقش عالمياً.
لقد عمل جيرار "على إدخال تعابير في اللغة اليومية التي ترسخت تماماً رغم كونها جديدة في زمنها مثل "رغبة التقليد" ، "آلية كبش الفداء" ، "تقديس العنف" ، "نصوص إضطهاد" أو "قتل جماعي مؤسس" ....
في هذا الكتاب يأخذ الكاتب شارل أموند المفردات الأكثر شهرة في أعمال جيرار ويعيد تركيبها بنماذج جديدة، تلك التي تمظهرت في أعمال الفيلسوف سواء بعلم النفس أو المسرح أو الرواية، ونقده لها، وخاصة تلك المكتوبة والمقروءة عند الكثيرين، مثلها مثل: "الفرضيات الأكثر مفاجأة والأكثر ثورية عن ولادة الإنسانية، الأديان القديمة، المنشآت، الأساطير، الممنوعات والطقوس، يمكن أن تكون مأخوذة من نص معروف للجميع منذ أكثر من الفي سنة. وبالمثل فالكلمات الأكثر استعمالاً يمكن" بشرط أن نعيرها انتباهنا، أن تقودنا إلى الحقائق الجديدة والقديمة".
إن الدخول إلى عالم رينيه جيرار صار ممكناً مع هذا الكتاب الذي يعتبر بحق مادة أدبية نقدية يسهل الرجوع إليها إذا ما اردنا فهم الأعمال الأصلية لهذا الفيلسوف الشامل، وقراءة أفكاره بالإنطلاق من مفرداته الخاصة والمشتركة مع أعلام عصره، ودراستها في تعاقبها الزمني كمفهوم وأداة للكتابة والتفسير معاً.
