يشكل هذا الكتاب قراءة في فلسفة إيمانويل كانط (1724- 1804م) وأهم الأعمال التي تركها هذا الإسم التنويري الذي ساهم في رسم معالم الحضارة الأوروبية الحديثة والمعاصرة. لقد ساهم إيمانويل كانط في تشييد العقل الغربي وانتشاله من الخمول والخرافة إلى النشاط والواقع التنويري. فكلمة "نقد" استولدت عن طريق كانط.
يبدأ الكتاب بمقدمة عن حياة وفلسفة إيمانويل كانط بوصفه فيلسوف النقد الأكبر في تاريخ البشرية، لذلك شدّد كانط على (العقل) – يقول المترجم – باعتباره أعظم شيء خلقه الله تعالى في الإنسان. نجده عند "كانط" موضع للنقد والتفكيك والشمولية بالدراسة بنوعيه "العملي" و "الخالص" أو "المحض"، والأخلاق باعتبارها هي "جوهر الإنسان" درسها "كانط" وحاول نقلها من المعرفة العقلية المشتركة بالأخلاق إلى المعرفة الفلسفية كمرحلة أولى. ثم حاول نقل الأخلاق الميتافيزيقية إلى مرحلة ينقد من خلالها العقل العملي المحض في محاولة لدراستها، دراسة شاملة".
وبهذه الصورة، يحاول هذا الكتاب تبسيط فلسفة كانط الصعبة والمرهقة، ولكن الصورة لا تكتمل، إلا بشرح مفردات كانط حتى يسهل إدراكها. لذلك لا يمكن الإبحار في فلسفة هذا الفيلسوف التنويري العظيم من دون فهم مفرداته، من هذا جاء كتاب (المفردات والأسلوب عند كانط). نقله إلى العربية وسيم خويص، جامعاً بين دفتيه شرحاً لما يقارب ستين مفردة من مفردات كانط، وقد أتبع كل مفردة بتعليق يوضح ويفسر ما صعب فهمه مع الإشارة إلى المصدر الذي أُخذت منه المفردة ودار النشر وتاريخ النشر. ومن تلك المفردات نذكر: "الأنتروبولوجيا" ، "التناقض" ، "الإدراك" ، "القَبلي" ، "الفن" ، "الجميل" ، "الشيء بذاته" ، "النقد" ، "الإعتقاد" ، "الإستنساخ" ، "الإنضباط" ، "المجال" (...) وغيرها.
