هذا الكتاب – المفردات والأسلوب عند القديس أوغسطين – هو ترجمة الطبعة الفرنسية لكتاب (Le vocabulaire de Saint Augustin) من تأليف: كريستيان نادو، ومن ترجمة شادي رباح نصر.
والقديس أوغسطين من رواد الفكر اللاهوتي وصاحب نظرية فلسفية تنسب إليه تحت إسم "الأوغسطينية" ما عدا كونه شخصاً مثقفاً وفيلسوفاً لاهوتياً موسوعياً. في هذا الكتاب يُبسط كريستيان نادو التصورات والمبادىء الأساسية في التفكير الأوغسطيني، ويجعل منه مدخلاً لجميع القراء المهتمين بالروابط بين الفلسفة واللاهوتية و المهتمين بالتحرر البطيء للفلسفة من اللاهوتية. والهدف من وراء ذلك هو - كما يرى المترجم – مخاطبة شريحة أكبر من طلاب اللاهوت وقراء الفلسفة. أما بالنسبة للمؤلف – الذي حاول جاهداً أن يُظهر أوغسطين كمفكر لا مثيل له لا كمخترع تجريدي للحقيقة الخالدة – فقد جعل من نفسه خطيباً في القراء المتمكنين في الفكر الأوغسطيني عندما ناقش نقاط الكتاب السبع والثلاثين – أي المفردات – بطريقة ذات اتساق جميل وواضح. ففي كل مفصل يبدأ في تعريف شامل يلخص ماهية الأمر ومعنى المفردة (الروح، الحب والرغبة، السلطة، الجمال، الخير، الإحسان، التفكير، الخالق ...). وهكذا حتى المفردة السابعة والثلاثين لـ (الإرادة) وغالب الظن أنه موجه لقارىء (مبتدىء) في الفلسفة، فيقدم مناقشة أكثر بلاغية وأكثر تفصيلاً ... وفي نفس الوقت يمكن اعتباره كتاب موجه لقارىء (متمكن) في الفلسفة اللاهوتية والأوغسطينية، يتلمس القارىء ذلك من نقاشه ومقاربته بطريقة فصيحة ذات مفردات بليغة من الطراز العالي. وفي كل الأحوال اليوم يقدم الكتاب فهماً أفضل للنظم الأساسية في الجدال الأوغسطيني.
