هذا الكتاب أحد الكتب المصاحبة لتكريم الأستاذ الشيخ جودت سعيد مهداة إليه بحوثه ومقالاته من أصدقائه وعارفي فضله. انقسم الكتاب إلى قسمين، بعد كلمة الدار، وكلمة مديرها العام الذي يتحدث عن المكرم تحت عنوان (فطوبى للغرباء) الذين يعانون غربة الفكر وغربة التجديد والتغيير.
احتوى القسم الأول (قالوا عنه) سبع مقالات، الأولى نبذة سريعة عن سيرته وفكره وأعماله، ثم مقالات تتحدث عنه خلال التعريف بفكره وجهوده في تقديم آرائه للناس ورؤاه التي طرحها من أجل الارتقاء بالإنسان من خلال العلم والحوار والنظر في آيات الآفاق والأنفس، وموقفه من العنف ومن الحضارات.
وضم القسم الثاني (البحوث المهداة إليه) سبع مقالات أيضاً، غالبها في موضوعات يثيرها مالك بن نبي وجودت سعيد، وهي (الإكراه في اللاإكراه)، و(العلل العميقة لتعثر الصحوة والنهضة)، و(ثقافة السلم وإرادة الحرب)، ,(مراجعة لتقويم جودت على هامش الذكرى المئوية لولادته (1905-1973)، وهما (في نقد موضوعات لمالك بن نبي) و(حدثنا مالك قال). وختم الكتاب بموضوع منفرد يختلف عن بقية الموضوعات كلها (العلوم العربية بين التجديد والتغريب) جاء تلويناً للكتاب في النقد الأدبي الحديث.
