لاشك أن الدلالة تعد كما يقول بعض الباحثين قطب الدوران في كل بحث لغوي، وهذه الدراسة تهدف إلى دراسة الفعل، وتنطلق في ذلك من البعد الدلالي له، وعلاقة ذلك بكل من صيغته وتركيبه، إذن فهي تناقش الفعل بين الصيغة والدلالة، والفعل بين التركيب والدلالة، وقد انطلقت في ذلك من الجانب النظري المطروح في كتب اللغة والنحو قديماً وحديثاً، ولهذا جاءت الدراسة النظرية في هذا العمل ضرورية، باعتبارها الأساس الذي سوف تبني عليه الدراسة التطبيقية.
وقد اشتمل القسم النظري في هذه الدراسة على فصلين، الأول عرضت فيه الفعل بين الصيغة والدلالة، والثاني اشتمل على الفعل بين التركيب والدلالة، أما اقسم التطبيقي، فقد اخترت أحد معاجم المعاني ليكون مجالاً للتطبيق فاخترت معجم المخصص لابن سيده (ت: 458هــ) واخترت منه ثلاثة حقول دلالية هي: خلق الإنسان والسلاح والخليل، بقصد رصد حركة الفعل في هذه المجالات الدلالية الثلاثة باعتبار جانب الدلالة والصيغو والتركيب، ثم جاء القسم الثالث من هذه الدراسة ليحلل النتائج التي توصلت إليها في الجانب التطبيقي، ويناقشها في ضوء الدراسة النظرية.
