في هذا الكتاب يستخرج السيد جعفر مرتضى العاملي من الآيات القرآنية ما يؤكد على (براءة آدم) عليه السلام والقول أنها حقيقة قرآنية، ولعل الآيات التي تحدثت عما جرى لآدم عليه السلام في مواجهة مكر إبليس، كثيرة ومنها قوله تعالى {وَعَصَى آدَمُ رَبَّهُ فَغَوَى}، وهي الآية الأوفر حظاً والأكثر تردداً على ألسنة السائلين والمجادلين لمعناها وهي آية كما يراها مؤلف الكتاب "أكبر قدر مما تختزنه الألفاظ، في مفرداتها وفي تراكيبها من إيحاءات وإلماحات...".
ومن هنا، يظهر بوضوح للقارئ ما أراده مؤلف الكتاب وهو الدفاع عن نبي الله آدم عليه السلام والرد على من "يزعمون أنه الظاهر من الآيات المباركة، ليس بظاهر منها... وإنما للآيات منحى آخر، يختلف، بل يتناقض مع المنحى الذي يزعمون أنها تسير بإتجاهه، أو تشير إليه".
وفي هذا دليل للمؤلف على أن الآيات الشريفة قد جاءت في سياق مدح آدم عليه السلام وتعظيمه وتكريمه، لا لتلومه وتذمه، ولتؤكد على ميزاته عليه السلام وخصائصه الفضلى، ولتشير "إلى مقامه العظيم عند الله سبحانه وتعالى.
