تناول كثير من الباحثين في قضايا الفكر والمذاهب والآراء الإسلامية الكيان الشيعي بالبحث والدراسة من حيث النشأة والبنية والمحتوى والأثر السياسي والحضاري في تاريخ الإسلام.
يهتم هذا الكتاب بالتعريف بنشأة التشيع كمصطلح وبذرة في إطار الحياة الإسلامية، وتطور هذه البذرة إلى كيان فكري وسياسي على يد أئمة أهل البيت (عليهم السلام) ليصبح أكثر الكيانات المذهبية والإتجاهات المدرسية الإسلامية أثرا وفاعلية في حياة المسلمين.
يهدف الكتاب إلى تصحيح الأوهام والمفاهيم الخاطئة التي كونتها ظروف السياسة والإتجاهات المتعصبة، حول أصله ومحتواه.
وفي سبيل تحقيق هذه الغاية التزم المؤلف الموضوعية والأمانة العلمية في البحث والنظر في ما يطرح من أحداث ومواقف تاريخية وقضايا فكرية لها صلة بالدين والعقيدة نظرة نقدية بناءة بعيدة عن التعصب، غايتها الوصول بالقارىء المسلم إلى الحق فيما يخص دينه وعقيدته ورسالته في هذه الحياة، مع تبني مبدأ التقارب والتفاهم بين المسلمين جميعا على أسس الإسلام وأصوله المشتركة. ذلك هو الكتاب.
قسّم الكتاب إلى تسعة فصول: الدرس الأول (نشأة التشريع) والثاني (منهج البحث والتفكير في مدرسة أهل البيت) والثالث (التوحيد والرابع (العدل الإلهي) والخامس (النبوة) والسادس (الإمامة) و (التقية) والسابع (الإيمان بعالم الآخرة) والثامن (الإجتهاد) والتاسع والأخير (المنهج السلوكي في مدرسة أهل البيت).
