وضع النقود في جيب البنطلون القصير الأحمر وأخذ القنينةَ ونفذ إلى الخارج، لم ينشر الظلام حتى الآن، ولكن ألا توجد شجيرات الكادي الكثيفة في كلا الجانبين؟...
وقد سمع أن الكوبرا تعيش في حجر بين الشجيرات وتحب رائحة زهور الكادي.
روائح حلوة وموسيقى جيدة، وامرأة جميلة، هذه هي الأشياء التي تحبها الكوبرا السامة، تساءل أبّونيّ: "هل هذه الأشياء الطيبة محبوبة عند الكوبرا السامة فقط؟".
لديه معرفة تامة عن كل حجر ودرج وحفرة في ذلك الممر، "يصيبني الخطر فقط إذا أبطأت؟" فكر قليلاً ثم اقتحم الممر، ولم يتوقف حتى انتهى إلى حافة الحقل في نهاية الممر.
يكفيه فقط عبور مسافة بسيطة في الحقل ليصل إلى السوق الممتد على ضفة النهر، جميع الدكاكين مكونة من جدران متواضعة وسقوف من القش ما عدا واحداً سقف بالقرميد، لا يوجد فيه أي تجارة وكل ما فيه أشخاص يسكنون في الطابق العلوي.
المصابيح الزيتية تتوقد في الدكاكين، وأكثرها فوانيس مومضة عادية لم يكن هناك مصباح "بيتروَماكس" سوى في دكان يوسف - أكبر متجر في القرية - وهو الوحيد الذي يبيع الألعاب النارية عندما يقترب يوم "فِى شُو".
وقد قدم خيّاط جديد من "باتامبي"، أول خيّاط في "كُوّ دلّور"، وضع ماكنةً الخياطة في دكان يوسف وبدأ يخيط الأقمشة، يحب أبونيّ الذهاب إلى متجر يوسف لأن ذلك يعطيه فرصة لمشاهدة الخياطة ويستمع إلى صوت الإبرة حال تحركها المستمر وبسرعة فائقة تصدر جعجعة كادا... كادا... والأقمشة الملونة تمر من خلالها.
