وضع النقود في جيب البنطلون القصير الأحمر وأخذ القليلة ونفذ إلى الخارج، لم ينتشر الظلام حتى الآن؛ ولكن ألا توجد شجيرات الكادي الكليفة في كلا الجانبين؟.
وقد سمع أن الكوبرا تعيش في حجر بين الشجيرات وتحت رائحة زهور الكادي، روائح حلوة وموسيقى جيدة، وامرأة جميلة، هذه هي الأشياء التي تحبها الكوبرا السامة، تساءل أبّونيّ: "هل هذه الأشياء الطيبة محبوبة عند الكوبرا السامة فقط؟".
لديه معرفة تامة عن كل حجر ودرج وحفرة في ذلك الممر، "يصيبني الخطر فقط إذا أبطأت؟" فكر قليلاً ثم اقتحم العمر، ولم يتوقف حتى انتهى إلى حافة الحقل في نهاية العمر.
يكفيه فقط عبور مسافة بسيطة في الحقل ليصل إلى السوق الممتد على ضفة النهر، جميع الدكاكين مكونة من جدران متواضعة وسقوف من القش ما عدا واحداً سقف بالقرميد، لا يوجد فيه أي تجارة وكل ما فيه أشخاص يسكنون في الطابق العلوي.
المصابيح الزيتية تتوقد في الدكاكين، وأكثرها فوانيس مومضة عادية لم يكن هناك مصباح "بيتروماكس" سوى في دكان يوسف - أكبر متجر في القرية، وهو الوحيد الذي يبيع الألعاب النارية عندما يقترب يوم "في شو"، وقد قدم خيّاط جديد من "باتامبي"، أول خيّاط في "كو دلّور"، وضع ماكلة الخياطة في دكان يوسف وبدأ يخيط الأقمشة، يحب أبوليّ الذهاب إلى متجر يوسف لأن ذلك يعطيه فرصة لمشاهدة الخياطة ويستمع إلى صوت الإبرة حال تحركها المستمر وبسرعة قائمة تصدر جعجعة كادا... كادا... والأقمشة الملونة تمر من خلالها.
