في هذا الكتاب مباحث متفرقة لا يكاد يجمعها جامع، سوى أنها في تراجم أدباء قدماء كبار، وذكريات عن أمثالهم من المعاصرين الكبار. ومن هنا فهو مباحث متفرقة ولكنها مؤتلفة. وحسبك من مفارقة أن يكون المتفرق مؤتلفاً.
هذا كتابٌ يكادُ يكون مدخولّ النِّسبةِ في كتبي وليس مدخولَها تماماً في كتبِ الآخرين، لأنّه مباحثُ متفرقةً لا يكادُ يجمعها جامعٌ، سوى أنها في تراجم أدباء قُدماء كبارٍ، وذكرياتٍ عن أمثالهم من المعاصرين الكبار، ومن هنا فهو مباحثُ مُتفرقةٌ ولكنَّها مؤتلِفةٌ، وحسبُك من مُفارقةٍ أن يكون المتفرقُ مؤتلِفاً.
تأتلِفُ هذه المباحثُ بما يُعجِبُك من ثورتي بكر بن عبد العزيز العِجْليِّ، والجواهري - على الرُّغم من أنَّ بينهما أحد عشر قرناً - ولكنَّ بكراً لا يأتلِف مع الجواهريّ فنيّاً حتى لو قلتَ لي، إنَّ بكراً لا يبلغُ خُمس قامة الجواهري شعريّاً لوافقتُك.
والجواهري لا يأتلف مع بكرٍ فارس ميادين وقريعَ حروبٍ حتى لو قلتَ، إن الجواهريُّ لا يأتلف مع بكرٍ فارسَ ميادين وقريعَ حروبٍ حتّى لو قلتَ، إن الجواهريَّ لا يبلغُ خُمسَ قامة بكرٍ فارس ميادين لما جادلتُك، ولكنهما مع هذا وذاك مؤتلفانٍ إذا نظرت إلى ما ينقُصُ بكراً إزاء الجوهري، وإلى ما ليس في الجواهريُّ من بكرٍ، وأهم من هذا أنهما مؤتلفان إذا نظرتَ إلى معنى ثورة الشاعر في القرن التاسع الميلاديّ ما هي؟ وإذا نظرت إليها في القرن العشرين ما معناها؟.
