Book Description
تمثل الفترة التاريخية التي يتحدث عنها هذا الكتاب (1953-1958) شطراً مهماً في تاريخ العراق السياسي، وهي فترة هامة تنفرد بخصائص وسمات تميزها عن غيرها، تبدأ بتولي الملك فيصل الثاني سلطاته الدستورية، وما نتج عن ذلك من تعدد مراكز اتخاذ القرارات السياسية الخارجية، وطموحات ولي العهد عبد الإله آنذاك في إيجاد عرش له في سوريا، مما حدا بالحكومة العراقية إلى أن تنتهج نهجاً خاصاً في سياستها الخارجية بالمنطقة العربية وتنتهي بسقوط النظام الملكي إثر ثورة 14 تموز 1958 التي أطاحت به.
ومن ناحية ثانية، ففترة هذه الدراسة تعتبر من أخطر فترات النشاط السياسي على النطاق العربي. فقد تميزت بتأثيرات ثورة 23 تموز (يوليو) 1952 المصرية، وانتهاجها سياسة تحررية غير منحازة على الصعيد الدولي، وتحقيق المصلحة القومية على الصعيد العربي. بالإضافة إلى امتداد الصراع الدولي بين المعسكرين الذي شمل المنطقة العربية بأجمعها بسبب انحياز حكومة العراق إلى المعسكر العربي. مما يبرز أهمية هذه المنطقة لمختلف دول العالم وإمكانية قيامها بدور فعّال في استغلال الصراع القائم، لما يحقق تقدمها العلمي والاقتصادي، وبناء وحدتها السياسية.
وتتركز أهمية البحث كذلك، في كشفه الجوانب السرية لسلوك السياسة الخارجية العراقية ودور الدول الكبرى في توجيهها نحو القيام بنشاطات سياسية وعسكرية معينة طوعاً أو كرهاً، لاتباع سياسة خارجية تؤمن مصالح تلك الدول.
