بيني وبين الرجل من حيث فارق العمر، ربع قرن أو ينيف، وقد اعتبرت العرب كلّ مَنْ تخطى الخمسين كهلاً، ومَنْ جاوز الستين شيخاً، إلا أكرم الحوراني الذي ظل يعاند عمره مرحلة، وراء مرحلة، فقد أراد ألا يغادر شبابه أبداً، وبسبب من تكوين عنادي خاص، فقد واظب الحوراني على تحدي الشباب رغم كهولته، ربما لإيقاظ الهمم ونفخ الروح في جيل ما بعده.
كان الحوراني يقول وفي خلفيات كلامه دنيا من الحكمة (عليكم أن تركضوا قرنين أو أكثر دون توقف اللحاق بهذا العالم)، والغريب أنه لم يزر هذا العالم إلا قليلاً.
لقد ظل الحوراني هكذا، لا يريح أو يستريح، منذ أن طفق مع رفاق مدرسته الإبتدائية لإستقبال الملك فيصل الأول في محطة قطار حماه، وبعدها إلى الأحزاب، فالثورة في العراق 1941، ثم إلى فلسطين عام 1948، وفي المجلس النيابي قبل فلسطين وبعدها، معانداً إغواءات شبابه وكهوله سنّه وشيخوخة عمره، إلى أن قرر الطب أوائل الثمانينات إستئصال رئة له في باريس، لكنه يومها كان قد أطفأ السبعين في لفافة تبغ لم يبرحها منذ أن كان التبغ السوري (فرنسياً) لا حق لأهله فيه ولا بريعه وحتى أذاه...
